LE FIGARO. – How was the desire to write about old age born?
Geneviève DELAISI DE PARSEVAL. – As part of my work with the self-proclaimed National Council on Aging, which was created in 2021 to make the voice of the elderly heard and to demand the establishment of a real public policy on aging in France, I had the opportunity to: meeting many elderly people in the village, questioning them about their aspirations. In Western countries, our life expectancy has almost doubled over the course of the 20th century, and yet we rarely think about the quality of life in old age, the experience of it. This period of life is often reduced to a medical subject with care in nursing homes… Aging is something you don’t think about, and that’s why this topic interested me. I wanted to question the often simplistic vision of aging, to explore how we can best adapt to this age…
