It was installed at that time as a natural element in a fully equipped army barracks building.

In a fortress located in northern Bulgaria along the Danube River, where the Roman conquerors established and defended the territorial border 2,000 years ago, archaeologists discovered an ancient refrigerator. It was reported by the Polish Press Agency (PAP).

A group of archaeologists led by Professor Piotr Dyczek from the Research Center for Southeast European Antiquities at the University of Warsaw discovered a container box made of thick red ceramic plates. Archaeologists have identified this built object as an ancient version of a fridge or refrigerator, then, as now, storing perishable foods.

A Roman refrigerator was found inside a military barracks. It is a built-in element installed in a suitable place in the stone floor of the underground building, that is, it can only be opened from above. This design ensured that it was adequately insulated by the cold rock surrounding it on three sides.

Fragments of ceramic vessels and some burnt bone fragments were found in the refrigerator, probably the remains of cooked food. Scientists also found a bowl of charcoal, which they believe was used to repel insects.

The Nova Fortress was built in the first century AD. It is likely that the food storage box was installed as a natural element in a fully equipped army barracks building.

Recall that earlier in Israel, a rare intact burial cave was discovered with dozens of artifacts from the late Bronze Age.

In the Czech Republic, archaeologists found a structure older than the Egyptian pyramids
