LE FIGARO. – In your last book you propose to live Health with Montaigne. It is surprising to call a philosopher of the 16th century for healing today. Why this choice?
Michel LEJOYEX. – Her tests, Montaigne offers a philosophy of existence and better health, suggesting action on two essential levers: beliefs and behavior. This is exactly what we do in medicine and psychiatry. Acting on beliefs is the foundation of behavioral therapy. As Epictetus wrote “Men are tormented not by the events they experienced, but by the opinion they have about them.” Finding good habits and good behaviors is the other foundation of health.
