Health authorities investigate cause of hepatitis in children, but covid-19 is already considered suspicious
UK health officials are concerned about an unprecedented outbreak: the high record of hepatitis cases in children under 10 years old. In all, 60 cases of hepatitis were identified in the children’s group.. In Scotland, 11 cases were reported between the ages of 1 and 5 years.
Although hepatitis A and E are more common, none of the cases presented this diagnosis., which adds to the mystery authorities are seeking to unravel. In Scotland, the Public Health Scotland stated that an association with the cases considered uncommon has not yet been found.
“Investigations into a wide range of potential causes are ongoing, including possible links to infectious diseases”said the UK Health Safety Agency’s (UKHSA) director of clinical and emerging infections, Meera Chand.
COVID-19 IS AMONG THE SUSPECTED OUTBREAK OF HEPATITIS IN CHILDREN
Even without concrete answers about what is linked to the growing number of children with liver problems, Covid-19 is being considered one of the suspects in the scenario. What is known is that there is no relationship with the vaccine against the disease, as many of the affected children are not included in the list of eligible for the campaign.
“If you have a child who shows signs of jaundice, where skin has a yellow tinge and is most easily seen on the whites of the eyes, parents should contact their physician or other health care provider. We continue to investigate these cases and will provide more updates as they become available.”warned the director of public health at Public Health Scotland, Nicholas Phin.
