Despite the process of extinction of the third wave, Fiocruz highlights that the end of the pandemic is not yet
After the beginning of 2022 was marked by a strong wave of new cases and deaths from covid-19, in Brazil, the last few weeks have shown a downward trend in these rates of the disease. According to the Bulletin of the Covid-19 Observatory of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), released last Friday, 08, the weeks from March 20 to April 2 showed improvement indicators.
According to Fiocruz, the virus scenario in Brazil is positive, but emphasizes that this does not mean that the pandemic has come to an end. However, according to the foundation, the third wave of the disease already demonstrates a process of extinction: “The current scenario signals a gradual reduction in the main impacts of the pandemic, with a decrease in the number of serious cases, hospitalizations and deaths”.
DESPITE THE REDUCTION, HOSPITALIZATION OCCURRED MORE AMONG THE ELDERLY AND CHILDREN
Even with the drop in the hospitalization rate, two groups were most affected at this point: elderly and children. The fourth dose is already being applied to elderly groups across the country, while vaccination for the 5-11 age group is still slow. “In order to maintain the trend of reducing the main impacts of the pandemic, causing a decrease in the number of serious cases, hospitalizations and deaths, it is essential to expand vaccination coverage”highlighted Fiocruz.
According to scientists, the scenario can still be changed by the emergence of new strains that can be more serious. “It should be noted that, as in the previous “waves”, the reduction is less accentuated than the intensity of the moments of rise of these waves”said Fiocruz.
