Diabetes causes dysregulation in glucose levels and also reduced blood circulation
Brazil is the 5th country with the highest incidence of diabetes in the world according to the Ministry of Health, totaling 16.8 million adult patients (20 to 79 years old), second only to China, India, the United States and Pakistan. The disease requires medical monitoring and usually drug therapy, with the aim of controlling blood glucose levels and reducing symptoms, including weakness, excessive thirst and hunger, weight loss and visual changes. the cardiologist Dr. Roberto Yano explains how diabetes causes weakness and reduces sexual appetite.
DIABETES AND FATIGUE
The more decompensated the patient’s condition, the more evident the symptoms and ills caused by the disease become. Diabetes makes it difficult for cells to use sugar (glucose). The amount of glucose in the blood increases, but the concentration inside the cells is reduced, causing fatigue, tiredness, among other symptoms. Patients also report abnormal thirst and dry mouth.
DIABETES AND SEXUAL APPETITE REDUCTION
Another symptom caused by diabetes is reduced sexual appetite. This occurs due to the process of atherosclerosis caused by the disease, that is, a narrowing of the arteries that reduces blood circulation, including the arteries that irrigate our sexual organ. This reduction in circulation also decreases sensitivity, due to the destruction of the small vessels that supply the peripheral nerves.
However, not all muscle weakness is a sign of diabetes. Other pathologies, such as nutritional deficiencies and hypothyroidism, also cause symptoms such as weakness. Therefore, it is essential to carry out medical follow-up to diagnose and treat the disease, reducing symptoms and promoting an improvement in the quality of life of patients.
