Even with growth, Brazilians face inequality in access to telemedicine
Telemedicine has never been heard of so much in Brazil as during the pandemic period. And this method seems to have settled in to stay. According to the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic), almost half of Brazilians started using this feature in the last 12 months.
DATA POINT INEQUALITY IN ACCESS TO TELEMEDICINE
Despite being growing, telemedicine does not reach all Brazilians in the same way. Cetic’s research shows a huge inequality: while classes A and B represent 42% of the group that most made virtual consultations, only 22% of people from class C had this access and 20% of the population from classes D and E used telemedicine.
According to the research coordinator, Fabio Storinoa CNNthe biggest challenges for expanding this resource in the country are: internet access and mobile device. “We need further democratize access to online health services. We need to open this possibility to everyone. Brazilians in general need to benefit from telemedicine”he said.
Published this Tuesday, 5th, with the participation of more than 5 thousand people over 16 years old, the Cetic research showed that 82% of the wealthiest classes used telemedicine from private offices. Public telemedicine was used by 78% of people in classes D and E.
