“The advent of monoclonal antibodies has made a revolution asthma management says Pr: Cindy Barnig, a pulmonologist at Besançon University Hospital. We were able to offer solutions to patients who were suffering from both their asthma and the very high doses of corticosteroids needed to support it.”
Expensive, these treatments are, however, reserved for patients whose disease is severe and not controlled by conventional drugs, or who cannot tolerate them. If monoclonal antibodies do not cure them, they allow many patients to recover an acceptable quality of life, especially since they are administered by a simple injection every two weeks or every month. “Some patients tell us that they have found a life like they lived before the disease.”cheers Pr: Pascal Demoly, Head of the Department of Pulmonology, Allergology and Thoracic Oncology at the University Hospital of Montpellier.
