Among the reports, even breastfeeding children are being taken to child quarantine centers.
With a new outbreak of covid-19, the Chinese city of Shanghai has taken steps to contain the virus. Amidst this scenario, there are reports that children who test positive for the disease are being separated from their parents to a child quarantine center. People are even more concerned after images of crying children are associated with one such environment, such as downtown Jinshan.
“This is horrible”, wrote an internet user. According to Reuters, a source familiar with the facility confirmed that the photos circulated are of Jinshan. Esther Zhao became even more worried after seeing the images, as she was forced to separate from her 2-year-old daughter after taking her to a hospital in Xingai with a fever.
“There were no photos. I am so anxious, I have no idea what situation my daughter is in.”said Zhao, on Saturday, 2. The mother only received a message that her daughter would be fine.
MOTHER SAYS ONE OF SHANGHAI’S RULES IS THAT CHILDREN WITH THE DISEASE MUST BE REFERRED TO SPECIFIC CENTERS
Esther Zhao reported that the doctor told her that referring children with Covid-19 to special centers was one of the rules in Shanghai, and parents are not even allowed to accompany their children. Reuters receives reports of infants over three months old, still breastfeeding, being taken to these locations.
The news agency called the center of Jinshan, but got no response. The city government also did not respond to Reuters. A source familiar with the facility reported that more than 20 children ages 5 to 6 were sent to a quarantine center alone, without their parents. On April 1, mainland China reported just over 2,000 new cases of the disease – a higher number than the day before.
