Brazilian doctor Angelita Habr-Gama has won several awards and changed the course of treatment for lower rectal cancer

Recognized by Stanford University, in the United States, in partnership with the company specialized in scientific, technical and medical content, Elsevier BV, Angelita Gama is part of the 2% of the most prominent scientists worldwide.
“This recognition is a stimulus for Brazilian doctors and scientists, a stimulus for career progression for other researchers”said the doctor, Estadão. With more than 200 articles published, Angelita Gama is one of the greatest scientists in Brazil, with several awards.
WITH HIS RESEARCH, BRAZILIAN SCIENTIST CHANGED THE TREATMENT OF LOW RECTUS CANCER
Coloproctology is Angelita’s area of expertise, which is based on diseases of the large and small intestine, rectum and anus.. With research started in 1981, the doctor changed the course of treatment for cancer of the lower rectum, which started to be treated, initially, with chemoradiotherapy, before leaving for surgical removal. Happy and honored by the recognition, the 90-year-old doctor explains that the result was the result of hard work: “All this required a lot of effort, a lot of study and a lot of dedication, but we get there”.
In its trajectory, Angelita was the first woman to become an Honorary Member of the scientific society American Surgical Association. Still, the course Coloproctology was created by the doctor at USPand came to lead the department of Gastroenterology at the university’s Faculty of Medicine.
