Worldwide, more than 1 in 2 will suffer from at least one headache during the year. There are over 200 causes of headaches, and some headaches may just be a symptom of an underlying cause. But the vast majority are so-called primary headaches, which are not associated with other pathology or identical trauma. This term includes several diseases. How to recognize them?

• Migraine, a disease of young women

With 15% of the population, migraines are one of the most common headaches. “Among children, boys have the same number of migraines as girls, but after puberty there are three females for every one male. Then only 2% to 3% of people over the age of 60 have active migraines.”, explains Professor Anne Ducros, a neurologist at the University Hospital of Montpellier. Migraines can start at any age, but usually appear during puberty or early adulthood.
