Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious and disabling pathology, the only curative treatment of which is transplantation. Patients with CKD experience decreased kidney function, which eventually stops filtering blood through the body. In France, more than 90,000 patients suffer from so-called “end-stage” chronic renal failure (CKD).
While it is true that a transplant remains the most effective treatment, 57% of patients do not qualify for it and must seek another replacement treatment to provide the blood-cleansing function normally performed by the kidneys: dialysis.
