House-Select Committee Investigating Last Year’s Uprising Prepares For Its National Hearing The Washington Post reports that the video will be recorded with Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner.
On Thursday, Select Committee Chair Benny Thompson (D-Miss.) And Vice President Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) Will begin a series of television hearings with live witnesses and taped interviews, including their personality in the White House. Both Trump and Kouchner served as senior advisors to Donald Trump’s White House during last year’s Jan. 6 uprising.
The committee will try to put the violence in the Capitol in the broader context of a broad scheme to overthrow the legitimate presidential election on Jan. 6, where Trump’s involvement would be an “important line,” sources in Post.
Cassidy Hutchinson, former Chief of Staff to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, is expected to play a key role in the hearings, according to sources. He has already reported to the committee “comprehensive” information on Meadows ’activities aimed at canceling the elections.
The hearings will be the culmination of more than a year of commission work, which includes more than 1,000 witness interviews and review of 125,000 documents, the Post reported. This will be the most detailed investigation into the events leading up to the chaos and violence.
What will happen after the hearing is not clear. The committee can prosecute cases, but it is up to the Department of Justice to decide whether or not to file cases.
But the orderly arrest of Trump’s loyal supporter and former trade adviser Peter Navarro on Friday could signal a tough new DOJ. Navarro, who was accused of criminal misconduct by Congress for calling a witnessing commission, was arrested, handcuffed and imprisoned in a cell.
