Better understanding the genetics of obesity, a priority for care

One in two adults in France is now overweight and 17% are obese. Among economically disadvantaged populations, this prevalence may exceed 20%. These alarming numbers have continued to rise for forty years. This is a major public health problem because obesity is a chronic disease associated with many complications, particularly type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and at least thirteen forms of cancer.

Obesity is a complex disease involving genetic predisposition in interaction with many environmental factors, including changes in eating habits, physical activity levels, psychosocial context, stress or even sleep and disruption of biological rhythms.
