Actor Matthew McConaughey, who grew up in the Texas town of Walde, where residents killed at least 19 elementary students and two adults on Tuesday, called on Americans to “make small sacrifice ”to stop gun violence.
In a previous post on Wednesday, the Oscar winner wrote, “Now the real call to action is for all Americans to look in the mirror longer and deeper and ask,‘ What do we really value? How to resolve the problem? “What small sacrifices can we make today to keep a nation, state, and neighborhood healthy and safe tomorrow?”
“We can’t breathe again, find a reason and accept the pathetic reality as a status quo,” he continued.
McConaughey stressed that the solution is a non-partisan issue.
“It’s an epidemic that we can control and no matter which side we’re on, we all know we can do better.”
The Dallas Buyers Club star last year considered a challenge to GOP Governor Greg Abbott, but eventually decided against it. He did not say whether he intends to campaign as a Democrat or a Republican.
“As a simple baby born in the small town of Waldale, Texas, I never thought I would one day be considered a political leader,” he said in November. “It’s a humbling and inspiring way of thinking. It’s also a path I’m not choosing right now. “
