All analyzes converge on the same result. France is falling in all international rankings of research and innovation. At the same time, it has become one of the most deindustrialized countries in Europe, even if commendable efforts have been made to encourage the creation of startups from academic research. However, very few of them are able to develop enough to become perennials.
One of the reasons is obvious: the funds allocated to research. Domestic R&D spending is about 2.2% of GDP, putting us in 8th placee place in the European Union, after Sweden, Germany or Belgium, whose budgets significantly exceed 3% of GDP. A deeper reason for the decline in France’s ranking is also the weak engagement of young people in science in general and research professions in particular. Their preference is related to crafts, economics, etc.
