Merti published a new report warning of a shortage of 3 million “low -health workers” over the next five years and by 2033 of nearly 140,000 doctors.
“People are really fighting,” said Merti. “After two years of COVID-19 and the loss of more than 1 million important people, the people we all reach out to get to know, comfort and help us recover have been pushed to their limits.”
The administration is seeking new investments and measures to protect the mental well -being of health workers; This includes expanding consulting offers, reducing administrative burdens and promoting employee safety at work.
If the changes are not implemented, Mert said, the country will not be prepared for future public health emergencies and “we will send a message to millions of health workers that their suffering is not important.”
The initiative comes after the Biden administration stepped up its efforts to address mental health problems across the country. President Joe Biden released a national strategy to launch mental health and drug treatment with its release in March.
