Schizophrenia is a rare disorder affecting 0.4-0.7% of the world’s population, associated with multiple etiologies and risk factors for neurodevelopment. Many predisposition genes have now been identified and familial patterns are known; 7% to 10% of people who have a sibling with schizophrenia will also have it, with an even higher risk if they are twins or if both parents are affected. However, genetic predisposition does not explain everything, and the environment, that is, everything that affects the course of a person’s life, plays an important role in the emergence of this pathology.
