On Tuesday, December 13, in the middle of the parliamentary session, Jacinda Ardern lost her temper and insulted her political opponent. After that, the Prime Minister apologized.

Betrayed by her microphone, Jacinda Ardern made a small mistake that was broadcast on New Zealand’s Parliamentary Channel on Tuesday, December 13. The country’s prime minister called his political rival David Seymour, leader of the Liberal Party ACT, “an arrogant scoundrel”.

The object of his anger. The intervention of the latter, who a few moments before had invited him to “cite an error for which he apologized and which he repaired”. The 40-year-old woman responded that the successive detentions had been difficult for New Zealanders, adding that she nevertheless supported the work done by the government. Before sitting down again, thinking the microphone was off, and insulted his political rival.

Jacinda Ardern’s apology

The only downside is that the comment was heard privately by parliamentarians and televised. David Seymour then approached the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Adrian Rurahe, so that he apologized to Jacinda Ardern and she retracted her remark. A request which was rejected by the principal concerned as the Prime Minister had already left the scene.

A spokeswoman for the 40-year-old has since revealed she apologized to the MP, according to David Seymour, via text message. This mea culpa, however, did not seem to move him. “The apologies we really expect are for New Zealanders who are concerned about rising prices (…),” he said in particular.
