The event will be held from 19 to 29 January in Park City (USA). The film will compete with 11 other documentaries from around the world.

A documentary film by Ukrainian journalist and director Mstislav Chernov 20 Days in Mariupol is included in the competition program of the main independent film festival in the world called Sundance, which takes place in the USA. This is what the press service reported.

According to the plot, the picture tells how Mariupol experienced the first weeks of the Russian invasion – shelling, the death of civilians, the bombing of a maternity hospital.

Chernov, Associated Press and Frontline worked on the picture. It will now compete against 11 other documentaries from around the world in the World Cinema Documentary Competition. In addition, there is another Ukrainian film – Iron Butterflies of Roman Any.

“Mstislav Chernov, together with photographer Yevgeny Maloletka and producer Vasilisa Stepanenko, arrived in Mariupol on February 24, an hour before the start of the raid as an Associated Press team. They recorded everything that was happening in the city, including humanitarian disaster caused by the siege, mass graves of civilians, crimes Russian troops, the work of doctors, were the first to show the world the consequences of the bombing of maternity hospital No. 3. The media file, watched by the whole world, was sent by Chernov and Maloletka, who were hiding under the stairs near a broken grocery store – from the only place in Mariupol where communication was maintained, “they told the press service .

The creators of the photo shared the terrible details: “We often came across the death of children, it’s hard to forget. All the children who were taken to the hospital and who we shot – they all died. This is children who were in our frames – like 15- both summer and three-month-old babies. They all died as a result of shelling,” said Maloletka.

The team left the besieged city on 15 March.

“The lack of information on the conditions of the blockade has two purposes. The first is chaos. People do not understand what is happening and panic. The second is impunity. Like. If not for us, there would be no such shots. That’s why we took a risk to show the world what we saw,” Chernov said.
