ABC News has fired “GMA3” hosts Amy Robach and TJ Holmes as the network figures out how to handle the recent revelation that they are in a relationship.
ABC News President Kim Godwin announced the move during ABC’s editorial call Monday morning, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“I want to say that while the report is not a violation of company policy, I have really spent the last few days thinking and working on what I feel is best for ABC News organization,” Godwin said. “These decisions are not easy, they are not firm, but they are necessary for the brand and for our priority which, you know, is everything: the people here at ABC.”
Godwin said Gio Benitez and Stephanie Ramos will host the third hour of “Good Morning America” for now. He said he would not address the relationship between Robach and Holmes until there is clear news about their situation.
Both Holmes and Robach started hosting “GMA3” in 2020 while they were married to other people.
News that they were involved with each other emerged last week when the Daily Mail published photos of the couple drinking and partying at a cabin in upstate New York.
A source told People magazine that the couple only started dating in August, after their respective marriages ended around the same time. Another source told People that the affair was “widely known” among colleagues of Holmes and Robach. The two were even told to “cut off” the flirting some time ago, this source said.
The pair addressed the relationship revelations obliquely on Friday. “It was a fantastic week. I just want to go on and on” said Holmes jokingly. “Just having fun… Take it all in.”
“Speak for yourself,” Robach said with a laugh.
