This year’s edition of the AMAs featured an unprecedented category focused on k-pop, with BTS taking the grand prize
This Sunday, the 20th, the American Music Awards, better known as the AMAs, took place. The awards celebrate tracks, albums and artists that became very popular and had a high profile in the industry throughout the year.
The 50th edition of the awards, which took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, had a first-time category: Favorite K-pop Artist, and featured 5 nominees: BLACKPINK, BTS, TXT, TWICE and SEVENTEEN. After the popular vote, the group responsible for taking the first AMAs award entirely dedicated to K-pop was BTS.
The group composed of MRI🇧🇷 Jin🇧🇷 j-hope🇧🇷 Sucks🇧🇷 Jimin🇧🇷 V and jungkook also took home the award in the Favorite Pop Group/Duo category and became the first artist in the history of the awards to win the award four times in a row. In addition to BTS, the other nominees in the category were Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Maneskin, and OneRepublic.
Formed in 2013 by HYBE Labels, BTS will take a hiatus that will last until 2025, due to the boys’ enlistment for the South Korean army. The boygroup made their last comeback in June this year with “Yet To Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)”. Watch the clip!
