The man has a congenital pathology of vision. In his life, he underwent more than 20 eye surgeries.
A blind self-taught artist from Kurakhovo (a front-line city in the Donetsk region) Volodymyr Yanitsky painted, and sent all proceeds from the sale to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Focus writes about it.
“Doctors gave me predictions that by the age of 40 I would be almost blind,” says Vladimir.
Janitsky masseur-rehabilitologist by profession. But since childhood, he had a passion for painting.
“Canvases are very expensive, but I saved: I took linen sheets, pulled them, prepared them myself and it worked well. That’s how I painted the first pictures, ” said the artist.
At the age of 18, Yanitsky tried to enter an art school in Donetsk, but because of his eyesight, it did not work out.
“I took my sketches, I showed them to the school, and they told me that they needed such people. Then I asked, what should I take in the exam? I was told that I had to draw a capital (the above which is part of the column – Ed.) in the school building. I went out, looked up at the columns – I couldn’t see anything. And I went home. Yes, I’m self-taught, and I’m proud of it, ” Yanitsky notes.
It is known that Vladimir lived all his life in Kurakhovo. There he worked as a massage therapist, opened a furniture factory and painted pictures all the time. But the war that came to Donbass in 2014 radically changed priorities.
“All the money I earned then, I gave to help the military. I thought about it: it’s better to help than I am,” Yanitsky admitted.
And the large-scale invasion of Russia changed everything again.
“On the night of February 24, I had insomnia. I was sitting with the phone in my hand, and my husband woke up and asked: “Why don’t you sleep?” I answered that I don’t know myself, but I feel that something must happen,” – recalls Yanitsky.
Later, Vladimir and his wife decided they needed to evacuate.
“The doors with windows in the house began to open by themselves from the blast wave. And then we realized that it was time. True, we did not lose hope that everything would change: we planted a garden , and the next morning we left. . But on the necessary condition “We will return. The military, who saved their comrades they were defending the country, should also think for us? I think not. So it’s better to simplify their work – let the men do their work,” he said.
So the artist was evacuated to Volhynia and, despite the status of a visually impaired person, went to the military registration and enlistment office.
“Due to the stress, my legs gave out, I was lying down for almost a month. As soon as I started walking a little on crutches, so that no one would ask further questions (I’m big, 2 meters tall), I packed and got up. and went to the military registration and enlistment office,” recalls Yanitsky.
But the military registration and enlistment office refused to Vladimir.
“And then I made a decision: since I can’t directly help the army, I will help in the field of art. high. They gave me a few months. The doctors predicted that the heart would still explode. Need money for the operation . But I decided this: when the war is over, if I live, I will definitely do something. In the meantime, even if I can help with a penny, I will,” Yanitsky admitted.
Now the man teaches painting to children whose parents are fighting in front.
“You can’t imagine how happy the children are when we draw greetings, postcards together, and then the children send them in front of their fathers!” – shared the artist.
“It is not appropriate to draw nudes now. Therefore, I wrote what reflects my soul, what hurts. For example, I have a picture called Where it thunders, where it burns, which depicts of sunflowers. Why such a name for sunflowers? associate our Donetsk region with sunflowers, because anyone in Donbass knows that the fields there are always planted with sunflowers. It is a symbol of our region. And in Donbass today is “thundering” and “burning”. A series of works appeared, in which the central image belongs to a woman. It is a symbol of Ukraine as a whole – a woman. But, nevertheless, the image of a Cossack cannot be born in any way … I have a picture called “The Code of the Nation”: a towel, and there are cartridges on it. what is happening now: despite the fact that mag our mercy to create beauty, like a towel, we can load cartridges and shoot someone who lusts after us , “said Yanitsky.
He said, he relies on natural feelings and sensations.
“Perhaps, it is a kind of intuition. For example, I choose paintings intuitively, you can feel them, because they are different in density, structure. Therefore, I paint many paintings with my hands , without brushes. I draw so that people do not give up in a difficult situation. To show by example that if I, a blind person, can do it, then a person with hands, a head, everything is possible! And to motivate people who come back from the front with injuries, don’t lose heart. You shouldn’t give up,” said Janicki.
