Actor John Stamos is defending “Full House” co-star Lori Loughlin’s involvement in a college admissions scandal that sent her to jail for two months in 2020.
During an appearance Monday on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, Stamos insisted that Loughlin was not the mastermind behind the scandal, which also resulted in prison terms for Loughlin’s husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, and actor Felicity Huffman.
“I will say this, and she said I could,” Stamos said. “She wasn’t really behind it all, but in the background. He didn’t know what was happening.”
Loughlin pleaded guilty to paying half a million dollars in a scam to send her two daughters to college, but Stamos thought Loughlin deserved some credit for how she repaired her role in the scandal in recent years two years.
In addition to the two months behind bars, Loughlin was ordered to serve two years of probation, a $150,000 fine, and 100 hours of community service.
“And he paid a lot of money. she established a university fund for children, and she he went to prison man,” he added.
In October 2021, Loughlin was mocked on Twitter after she and her husband privately arranged for two unidentified students to be sent to the college at an estimated cost of $500,000.
Stamos has shown his support for Loughlin in the past. For example, the two made a TikTok video together last month and called the initial arrest “a difficult situation for everyone involved.”
Although Loughlin’s career took a hit after her arrest, EW notes that she has returned to acting in shows like “When the heart calls,” “The Mysteries of Garage Sales,” And “When hope rings.”
