Jay Leno has been hospitalized after suffering burns in a car fire

Longtime comedian and TV personality Jay Leno confirmed Monday that he was badly burned in a car fire Sunday but is recovering and doing “OK.”

Leno, 72, confirmed reports of the fire to Variety, saying in a statement: “I had some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I’m fine. I just need a week or two to get back on my feet.

TMZ first reported Leno’s injuries on Monday, saying he was treated at a Grossman Burn Center location after a car exploded next to him in the Los Angeles garage where he stores his vehicles. Leno was burned on the left side of his face, but did not suffer damage to his eyes or ears, according to TMZ.

The former “Tonight Show” host was scheduled to perform at a panel discussion in Las Vegas Sunday night, but organizers informed attendees that her appearance was canceled due to a “major medical emergency.”

Leno is a big car and motorcycle enthusiast and has hosted CNBC’s “Jay Leno’s Garage” since 2015. He also writes a regular column for Popular Mechanics where he discusses his car collection and offers automotive advice.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
