The total cost of participating in the contest for all broadcasters is generally around $5.65 million.
Montenegro and North Macedonia will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, which will be held next May in Liverpool. The BBC reported it.
The reason for this is the high cost of participating in the competition, but the cost varies depending on the size of the country. According to the BBC, after the disqualification of Russia due to the attack on Ukraine, the contribution increased for some countries.
“In addition to the large amount of registration fees, as well as the cost of staying in the UK – we also encountered a lack of interest from sponsors, so we decided to direct the available resources to finance the ongoing and planned national project,” said Montenegrin public broadcaster RTCG.
Regarding North Macedonia, the public broadcaster said that the refusal to participate in Eurovision 2023 was dictated by “the increase in the registration fee and an energy crisis in the country.”
The organizers of the song contest – the EBU – stated that they are committed to making the cost of entry as affordable as possible” and that their fees are calculated based on the number of participating countries.
It was previously reported that next year the International Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the British city of Liverpool.
