Redcar invents a new identity and a treasure hunt that leads to the discovery of his album, titled: Redcar adorable starswhich is scheduled to be released on November 11.

“My existential victory passes through aesthetics. The color and arrangement of the forms, the flowers arranged in size, the path of light on the bandaged muscles, the work of the material.” These are the first words singer-songwriter Christy and Queens (real name Héloise Letissier), 34, has shared on her new album (out Nov. 11 on the Why label). We know little or nothing about this enigmatic opus, except that it was mixed by the massive Mike Dean (who has worked with Kanye West, Beyoncé, Drake, Lana del Rey and The Weeknd, among others). And especially this first piece, which he presents as a favorite. More than a song accompanied by a video, it’s a small piece that stands on its own and heralds new balances.

Meeting of Rodin and the sailor

Calling: Knight’s Songit depicts a meeting in a harbor, at night, between a sailor and Rodin’s famous statue, The Brass Era. Formerly housed in the Musée d’Orsay, sculpted in copper and tin alloy, the latter representing the body of a young man. The sensuality of this life-sized male nudity (nickname: The Awakened Man) In 1877 caused a scandal. Almost a century and a half later, it’s surprising, even gratifying, to see him dancing alongside an artist who ushered in a revolution in morals and mindsets in the French musical landscape. Since its inception in 2011, Christina and the Queens have presented themselves shaking up aesthetic codes; tall as three apples, lost in a suit and tie, he took the stage alone with his voice, his lyrics and his strange melodies. which he filled the room using computer sounds.

Fascinating and disturbing

Both fascinating and disturbing, Christine and the Queens was unsettling with its references to the genre and its imagery of drag queens and characters à la. Martin Eden. Dance, performance, video and references to contemporary art have always accompanied her work and her profoundly multidisciplinary language. With the world at her feet, in 2018, Christine and Queens ditched the derbies she skated on while singing her interplanetary hit. St. Claude and allowed himself to change his name, picturesque universe and persona by releasing a funk album and calling himself Chris.

New name: Redcar

“The danger of success, he told us, is to stand in a statue, not to dare to take another step, for fear of challenging this sense of belonging, which a part of the public may have, wishing you would never change…definitely defined.” Today he returns to free, conceptual and reveals his new artist name. “Christine and the Queens represent Redcar”. And asks that it be accompanied by the qualifying pronouns “He/She”.

treasure hunt

Like the Situationists, an artistic movement that the artist loves, Redcar invents a treasure hunt that leads to the discovery of his album, titled: Redcar adorable stars, and a new identity. It’s the first step Knight’s Song, a very seductive title with a pointillist atmosphere, where the singer places her voice, ironically very feminine, over choruses of white noises against metallic percussion and electro layers. His artistic approach attracted the attention of Sotheby’s auction house, which from October 19 celebrates modern and contemporary art as part of the Paris + event. For their ‘Modernities’ sale, with Redcar as guest of honour, the artist ‘created an unprecedented dialogue in music with Rodin’s monumental and powerful sculpture’ (1). The singer will present new songs Redcar adorable stars live, with a show, a kind of rock opera, at Cirque d’Hiver, November 9 and 10, before the CD release. Motivated by the “desire to jump the waves”, as the artist writes on his Instagram page, Heloise, Christine, Chris, Redcar is revealed once again with his mixture of softness, roughness and graceful awkwardness, à la Bip, his hero Marcel Marceau.

(1) The show will also be performed at the Royal Festival Hall in London before the world tour.
