The 52nd September Gems Theater Festival took place in Kropyvnytskyi, where evacuated theaters from Kharkov and Mariupol performed, as well as invited groups from Chernihiv, Vinnitsa, and Kyiv.
Due to the full invasion of Russia, the event was held under the slogan “Muses are not silent.” The festival passed without announcements and posters, and tickets were not sold at the box office.
The festival was opened by the performance of the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theater from Mariupol “The Cry of the Nation”, which told about the life and fate of the dissident poet Vasily Stus, who was tortured by the Soviet regime.
It is known that on the day when an air bomb was dropped on the Drama Theater, as a result of which at least a thousand people died, the actors who took the stage of the Kropyvnytsky Theater on September 20 sought refuge here .
As part of the event, a joint project of the Kharkiv State Academic Ukrainian Drama Theater and the Vinnitsa Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater based on Sergei Zhadan’s drama, telling the story of two brothers, was also presented, which took place. in the summer of 2014 in Donetsk.
It is known that the organizers doubted whether to hold the festival this year, because security and funding are at the fore. However, patrons decided to support the participation in the festival of cinemas from other cities.
