Woody Allen announced his retirement from film

The cinematographer received a record 16 nominations for the main Academy Award for Best Screenplay.

The legendary American director Woody Allen announced his retirement from cinema at the age of 86. The star said that the film Wasp 22 will be his last film, writes Deadline.

Filming will begin this fall in Europe, primarily in Paris, with an all-French cast.

“My idea in principle was not to make more movies, but to focus on the script,” Allen said.

He also added that his next project is a novel.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that the filmmaker has spoken about this topic. In June, he said he planned to do one or two more films, but also said that “the thrill has gone because of the decline in the theater experience.”

As you know, in his long career, Allen received a record 16 nominations for the main Academy Award for Best Screenplay. He received this award four times. However, despite his success, the star has always been known to avoid award ceremonies.

However, in recent years he has been blacklisted due to accusations by his ex-girlfriend Mia Farrow that he molested their child. Allen himself has always denied these accusations and continues to work.

His last film was Rifkin’s Festival which grossed only $2.3 million and had a limited release in the US. Although MPI Media Group handled the film, Amazon Studios was replaced, giving Allen an $80 million deal in 2019.

Wasp 22 described Allen as “a kind of toxic romantic thriller” and compared it to his adventurous film Match Point.

It can be remembered that Allen’s adopted son, Moses Farrow, defended the filmmaker who was accused of pedophilia in his personal blog.
