Around Virginia Viard, the artistic director of the fashion house Chanel, a friend of the arts, organized an intimate and joyful dinner, whose guest of honor, Penelope Cruz, was impressed. L’Immensitacompetition Italian film.

Between Venice and the House of Chanel, a story under the seal of eternity. Genesis? Gabrielle Chanel’s passion for the city of Doggery, which she discovered in the summer of 1920, led by her friends, including Missia Serti, who wanted her to taste life again. The designer is at rock bottom, Boy Capel, her great love, has just killed herself in a car accident.

Venice does not take long to dazzle him. The city of Mirage, with its magnificent palaces, its impressive churches and its mysterious labyrinths, attracts and fascinates him. Venice, the epicenter of art and beauty, intrigues and inspires him. He loses himself in the maze of its tangled neighborhoods, discovers the gorgeous beaches of the neighboring Lido and the social life of elegant women who spend their days in palaces beside the Grand Canal. Gabrielle Chanel believes in signs. The lion, the symbol of the city, is also its astrological sign. It will become one of his symbols. He would always return to it and draw much from the mixed Venetian, Baroque, Byzantine, sometimes avant-garde heritage to feed his art. Later, like all the “café society” of the time, he frequented the famous Harry’s Bar, founded in 1931, home of Ernest Hemingway and the inventor of Bellini’s famous white peach cocktail and carpaccio.

Enchanted dinner

It was at this fabulous location that the Chanel house celebrated the 79th edition of the Venice Film Festival on Tuesday evening. Over the years, this festival has established itself as a great competitor to Cannes. International stars rave about La Sérénissime and follow each other on the red carpet at the Palais du Cinéma, a grand modernist room that has barely changed since the 1940s.

True to its intimate and delicate approach to events, Chanel, close to all arts, organized a small dinner that was both happy for the few and (really) warm around Virginia Viard, the artistic director who succeeded Karl Lagerfeld.

The special guest star of the party, the remarkable Penélope Cruz, who has been close to home for twenty years, stepped down from her Riva in a long black dress symbolizing the street style of Camboni; “It is an honor for me to be a Chanel ambassador. She is also lucky to be able to wear Virginia Viard’s creations, unique and timelessly elegant, but also infused with the rock spirit that makes them so modern,” she recalls before taking her seat. Across the street, coincidentally, Catherine Deneuve, the Golden Lion 2022, was perched on the balcony of a neighboring palace, watching celebrities from afar and with amusement disembark from their Riva mahogany.

The last guests lingered happily in front of the chocolate cream as Muglalis smoked outside, watching the rare boats disappear into the bay. Under the bright moon, elegant figures, some in business suits or long dresses, were also seen making their way down Calle Vallaresso. Gabrielle Chanel will surely enjoy watching them.
