The re-creation will be on display this week at the Focus Art Fair at the Carousel du Louvre in Paris.

A pair of British scientists have recreated a hidden portrait of two wrestling naked men by the legendary Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh. The painting was discovered 135 years after the artist painted it, Express wrote.

In 2012, X-rays of a flower painting in a Dutch museum confirmed the existence of a piece of art known only to experts through a previous link. January 22, 1886 the Dutch master told his brother Theo: “This week I painted a large object with two naked torsos – two wrestlers.”

Neuroscientist Anthony Burashed and physicist George Cann, PhD at University College London recreated painting in full color using 3D textured brushstrokes.

Working alongside mathematician and creative director Jesper Eriksson, the two scientists used X-rays, artificial intelligence and 3D printing to achieve this renaissance.

The image of the wrestlers is the basis of Van Gogh’s Still Life with Meadow Flowers and Roses, painted in 1886-1887 in oil on canvas measuring 100 x 80 cm.

The painting is currently in the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo.

The researchers trained the algorithm to simulate what the original painting might have looked like, based on the Dutch artist’s brushstrokes in hundreds of different works.

No one knows why Van Gogh painted the two wrestlers, because artists usually reuse the canvas, either to save money or because they are not satisfied with the result.

Recall that Van Gogh’s painting Street Scene in Montmartre was shown to the public for the first time in a hundred years.
