Perfume your home. instructions for use

No fancy boutique or trendy hotel doesn’t have its olfactory signature. What drives us to distill home fragrances that reflect our personalities? Instructions with Julien Pruvost, director of Trudon, a prestigious expert house in the field of interior fragrances.

Is home fragrance on the rise?

To collect: candles from the Les Albâtres collection, Trudon, 270g, €160. Trudeau

“Interior perfume is not a new gesture. But now it’s getting into habits. This is evident from the repeat and periodic purchases of the same perfume by our customers. In particular, the collection of perfume devices is declaring itself as a new trend: vaporizer, candle, diffuser… In Trudon, there are two elements to explain this movement. Our products, and especially our candles, are both aesthetic and statutory objects. They are, in fact, some of the most expensive and highest quality products on the market. This statutory aspect cannot be ignored during the purchase. The Trudon candle is kind of classic, a bit like a luxury brand bag. Relaunched in the 2000s from a very old know-how, produced in France, our candles blend in with any decor. Even our most kitsch creations, like our wax bust, are very successful. As for the candles that obviously do not bear our coat of arms, such as alabaster, they have also become a kind of house symbol. Of course, we regularly enrich our offer by offering new aesthetic perfume items. That was the case with the Egg, our first diffuser designed as a cabinet item of interest. Our Promeneuse was designed by Pauline Deltour, who has sadly since passed away. We position ourselves there, ultimately, as design editors. And it is also this, this dynamic of our house, and others, that makes you want to perfume the house and be interested in the various gestures of doing so.

Would you recommend specific scents for certain rooms in the house?

“No! Everyone has their favorite perfume that suits them or matches the moments of everyday life. It’s more about having the right gesture in the right room.”

Do you perfume the house as soon as you enter?

In the ideal entrance: Trudon diffuser, 350 ml, 160 euros. Trudeau

“As for me, I appreciate being greeted by the perfume I love. A diffuser is especially useful here. It is strong locally. It’s also a beautiful object with tinted laminated glass stamped with our crest that reflects light well. It’s the perfect device before lighting a candle in your living room.”

So let’s go to the living room…

Show staples: Trudon candles from €39 Trudeau

“That’s where the wax really comes in. Big or small depending on the space you have. It gives perfume and also creates an atmosphere. This summer I placed one of our large candles behind one of the shuttered windows in my living room. And I opened the others. Thanks to the air circulation, we were able to enjoy the aroma inside. And visually it was also very beautiful.

La Promeneuse finds its place both in the living room and in the meeting room. Trudeau

Obviously, our Promeneuse with its scented wax cameros is perfect in the living room. It’s very efficient, so it’s ideal when you’re in a rush. Many companies with neatly designed offices have also adopted Promeneuse for their meeting rooms, for example. It has another advantage: if you forget to turn it off, unlike a candle, there is no risk. However, one caveat. if the living room and the dining room form the same room, do not forget to put out the candle or tour before sitting down to eat. Spreading perfume during dinner is a real fake.”

We often see lots of lit candles in the bathroom in movies… Would you recommend it?

Trudon’s retro line vaporizer is nice and practical in the bathroom, but also in the dressing room and why not in the car… Trudeau

“Yes, we see it in the movies where we spend hours in a lather on the edge of the bathtub with a glass of wine. This is not real life. In fact, there is very little laziness in the bathroom. We go, we come. And spending time on extinguishing and lighting candles is not particularly pleasant. you are effectively avoiding leaving the candle burning unattended. So I recommend a vaporizer in this room. It’s a subject that people don’t always like. I too have long been a refractory. But I must say that it is an object that allows a very easy transversal perfume. bathroom, but also curtains, carpet, bed cover, wardrobe, armchair… The perfume is not very persistent. It’s like a primer when, for example, guests come over. In addition, the Trudon vaporizer is very decorative with its straw bottle, emblem and pear. It fits perfectly in bathrooms. But I also think it’s perfect for a dressing room. We can even imagine new applications in a luxury garage or inside a car.”

How to perfume a room?

“For me, the bedroom is a room without perfume. Seems inconsistent to me. It’s like sleeping in a ball gown. The bedroom is a place that should be relaxing, without noise, without light and without strong smell. The sense of smell is the most powerful, if it is required during sleep it is not ideal. The interesting thing is that it perfumes the room during the day, especially if you put your office there or when you gather there. This brings the “pure” side. In this case, we choose vaporizers and light, floral, slightly citrus scents, such as our Cyrnos or Ernesto perfumes.”
