The program includes the presentation of six dance videos, which are part of the artistic project of director Alejandro Clavier, choreographed by Monica Silva Macher.

During the presentation, there will be a short video showing how the experience went, and a dance performance featuring six women from Accomarca. There will also be a table-dialogue about dance and creativity in the process of family members.

Theophila Ochoa, Member Association of Relatives Affected by Political Violence in Accomarca County and a Good News contributor; Adelina Garcia, President National Association of Relatives of Abducted, Detained and Missing Persons of Peru (ANFASEP); Eva Esteban, ICRC psychologist; Monica Silva, director of Danza PUCP and project choreographer; and Renata Flores, an artist from Ayacucho.

“Dance Treatment”

For the protagonists of Buenas Noticias, communicating with their missing loved ones through body language, sharing good news about the events that have happened in their lives since they last saw them, was revealing.

“Experiences can be so complex and full of contradictions that speech may not necessarily indicate their real dimension. Memories become sensations, and movement becomes a very real channel for their formation, because dance heals,” commented Monica Silva in a press release.

The work appeared in 2019 as a way of reimagining the traditional celebration that ANFASEP’s “mamitas” held annually on the occasion of the Day of the Dead in Ayacucho. This year the project reached another important milestone in Accomarca with the participation of six women from Association of Relatives Affected by Political Violence of Accomarca County (AFPAVDA)residents of Lima, who have been waiting for the delivery of the bodies of their relatives for more than 35 years.

In six short films streamed via Tiktok and Instagram, the public can recognize the “good news” that Theophila, Roberta, Alberta, Fernandina, Matilda and Sophia have prepared for their relatives who died in 1985. Through dance and body expression, they tell what has happened to them over the past three decades.
