From last August 5 it can be seen on Star+’Predator: Prey’, an action thriller that took the press by storm with a 93% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, an American film and television review website.

The film complements the iconic Predator franchise, which began in 1987 with the highly successful Arnold Schwarzenegger film of the same name, directed by John McTiernan.

Set 300 years ago in the Comanche tribe, the new film tells the story of Naru (Amber Midthunder), a fierce and highly skilled young warrior who grew up in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roamed the Great Plains. When danger threatens his camp, Naru sets out to protect his community from an evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal.

So, ‘Predator: Prey’ continues and expands the legacy of one of the most iconic creatures in cinema of recent decades. Created by director Dan Trachtenberg for the film, the new Predator is already surprising and captivating both longtime fans of the franchise and viewers who have just discovered it.

Predator: Revive an enemy

The creature that roams the Great Plains is a highly advanced alien, recognized as one of the most ferocious opponents in the universe. Equipped with high-tech weaponry, the Predator can become invisible and detect heat through firing bolts, among other things.

To create the iconic high-tech figure, the creative team turned to StudioADI, a renowned special effects company that designed, created and performed many memorable characters, including the franchise’s previous Predators. Working closely with puppeteers Tom Woodruff and Alec Gillis, Trachtenberg set out to bring to life a creature more monstrous than the previous ones. “I love the design of the original Predator and I think that’s one of the reasons this franchise continues to exist, but I wanted our Predator to be a lot weirder and scarier,” the director said in a press statement.

Competition? Create the beast at the historical moment in which the film takes place, the beginning of the 18th century, but be technologically advanced in doing so. The team then developed a bone mask that looks older and more brutal, but with organic and tactile details that make it unique and more modern.

The result not only impressed in front of the camera, but also left everyone on set speechless. “The first time I saw him, he was walking through the forest. I went up to him, and something incredible happened to me. I was amazed by what I saw, but at the same time I was trying to determine if I could actually kill him, ”recalled actress Amber Midhunter.

Two meter talent

who lives in the body Predator is Dane DiLiegro, an American actor and former basketball player, over six feet tall, who undeniably possessed a commanding posture whenever he impersonated the creature on set. The filmmakers say that DiLiegro is passionate about filmmaking and that he actively shared his ideas about the creature’s prehistory, its mind, and even the alien’s emotions, enriching his character in various ways.

Predators yesterday and today

For his 35-year cinematic life Predator It has become a true symbol of popular culture. As Trachtenberg points out, this being is both “wonderful and hideous” whose intent goes beyond the idea of being scary, presenting itself as a beast with full consciousness, character and personality.

Trachtenberg said: “The sight of a creature in a helmet and dreadlocks is already extraordinary. Then when he takes off his helmet and shows his face, it’s really disgusting and beautiful at the same time. Some of the designs are just disgusting. It’s disgusting and cool.”

The next installment in the franchise honors that legacy as part of a powerful and compelling story that marks a new milestone in the franchise…and already leaves fans wanting more.
