Rolling Stones fans around the world have been eagerly awaiting 13:00. Last Thursdaywhen the re-release of the restored 4K videos for the song ‘Jumping Jack Flashone of the group’s most successful singles.
The launch was announced early in the morning on the band’s social media and was finally posted on their YouTube channel.
More than half a century later
The videos were originally made in 1968 American director and documentary filmmaker michael lindsey-hogg, known in music history as the author of the documentary “Let It Be” where you can see The Beatles performs his last concert on the roof of the Apple Corps headquarters in 1969.
For his work with The Rolling Stones, both reissued versions from Jumpin’ Jack Flash is important difference. One of them features the band playing the song live; in another they sing live to music recorded in the studio, but fully painted.
In this regard, the director recalled that he made two versions, since the first, this did not convince him.
“At first we shot without makeup (…) They were great. while we were doing it I felt like an ingredient was missing although I didn’t know what it was at the time,” he said in a recent interview.
Lindsey-Hogg was looking for an element that would make the band more attractive. fierce and wildand this fits in with the song, which typified the band’s return to its signature sound after psychedelic experiment with the album “Their Satanic Majesty Please” in 1967.
“We had a short break for lunch and I saw Brian Jones sitting at the makeup table and playing with the colors, applying it on my face and then wiping it off, and I’m like, “Hey. This is a really interesting look.’, he recalled.
After that, according to Lindsey, she asked the band members to go to the makeup table and apply “streaks, eye makeup or glitter all over the face, whatever.”
The recovered videos allow us to appreciate the group at their door stage of greatest creative flourishingstarted with the release of his album “The Beggar’s Banquet”, December 1968. It is also a recording of one of the last musical performances of Brian Jones, one of the band’s founding members, who died just over a year later.
