The canvas of the XVII century, considered to have been lost for more than 400 years, was found in a private mansion in Paris. This autumn, a masterpiece will be placed for the auction.
In Paris, they made a funny discovery – in a private house they found a picture of Christ on a cross, written by Flemish master Peter Paul Rubens in 1613. The work was considered lost for centuries, Artnews reports.
The canvas was discovered by French auctionist Jean-Pierre Ozen during the preparation for the sale of a mansion in the 6th district of Paris. According to him, this is a “very rare and incredible -believing”, as the work was created at the peak of artist’s talent. The picture is preserved in very good condition.
The authenticity of the masterpiece was confirmed by German art critic Niels Buttner, the leader of the Rubenianum center in Antwerp. The originality was also established using X -Ray tomography and pigment analysis.
Unlike most Rubens’ works created for the Catholic Church, Christ on the cross is probably written for a private customer. The owners of the mansion mistakenly believe that it was among the 19th-century French actress William-Adolf Bugro.
This autumn, a unique picture will be placed for the auction.
Earlier it was reported that the visitor accidentally broke the picture of Tuscan prince in the 17th century at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, trying to make an amazing selfie.
