New York (AP) – Rapper Kid Creole was convicted of manslaughter in 2017 for fatally injuring a homeless man on the street.
The rapper, whose real name is Nathaniel Glover, filed a lawsuit last month over the death of John Jolie, who was twice stabbed in the chest with a knife in Manhattan in August 2017.
Prosecutors accused Glover, a founding member of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, of stabbing another man after he got angry because he thought Jolie was gay and beat him up.
Glover’s attorney said it was for defense purposes. A letter was sent to the rapper’s lawyer asking for comment.
Glover, who was threatened with murder, is expected to be sentenced on May 4.
Grandmasters Flash and Furious Five were formed in the late 1970s in the Bronx.
The band’s most popular song was “The Message” in 1982. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, the first rap group to enter.
