Find out what were Disney’s five productions that were discarded by the producer over the three decade of history
Responsible for great hits in the universe of film animations, Pixar has marked several generations with exciting plots, conveying messages not only to children, but also to adults. However, it is not always that all plans come out of paper and become works displayed on the big screen.
Even with the high standard of productions, the company is also subject to projects that do not work and need to be abandoned halfway. Therefore, the playground separated a list of Pixar animations that were archived and never transmitted to viewers. Check it out!
1. Monsters SA 2: Lost in Scaradose
‘Monsters Sa’ is one of the most beloved animations of the admirers of the genre, but few know that the film would receive a sequel. Titled “Lost in Scaradise”, named for ‘Scare’, a fright in English, and ‘Paradise’ which in Portuguese means Paradise, the feature would follow another adventure of Mike and Sully, but now looking for the new door of Boo after she moves. Thus reversing the plot of the original film, the protagonists would infiltrate the earth, bringing to the plot the space for the exposure of the secrets of the monster world.
The idea of the sequence was discarded by the future launch of prequel 2013, “Monsters University”, which is available at Disney+.
2. Sam & Max
Adapting the comics of Steve Purcell Of the same name, Pixar intended to produce a feature on SAM detectives, an anthropomorphic dog, and Max, a hyperactive rabbit.
The creator of the characters, who worked at the producer until the year 2023, according to Screenrant, was never interested in taking the protagonists to Pixar, but would be open to a possible movie. The speculation around the cancellation is the tone of the plot not to match the studio productions.
3. The Shadow King

Pixar Stop-Motion? In 2010, the director of the classic animation “The Strange World of Jack” and “The Cord Bride”, Henry Selickwas hired by the studio for the production of style movies. “The Shadow King” had the launch scheduled to debut in 2013, however it was canceled a year earlier due to disagreement in production, according to the Collider portal.
The feature would accompany a boy who was born with long fingers and for that condition learned to create shadow dolls to fight enemies.
4.
Henry Selick It was also famous for adapting one of the biggest hits of Neil Gaiman“Coraline and the secret world”, therefore, by closing a contract with Pixar, the filmmaker had the project to produce the stop-motion of “The Grayard Book” in Portuguese, “The Book of the Cemetery”, also by the author.
The film would be the studio’s first adaptation, but due to schedule conflicts and creative divergences, Selick left Pixar, and in its place Ron Howard It was hired on site, but the project was unsuccessful, so being canceled.
‘The Grayard Book’ tells the story an orphan boy adopted by ghosts of a cemetery. Again not being a plot that matches the studio, being another reason for the filing.
5. Newt

In mid -2008, after having Disney’s rights, Pixar planned the release of four films, however, only three aired that were “Up – Altas Adventures”, “Cars 2” and “Valente”, being “Newt” the discarded at the time.
With the direction of Gary Rydstromresponsible for “Lifted” one of the studio’s most beloved short films, the film even won the following synopsis, according to Screenrant:
“What happens when the latest male and remaining females on the planet are forced by science to come together to save the species, and they no longer stand? Newt and Brooke embark on a dangerous and unpredictable adventure and find that finding a partner never comes out as planned, even when you only have one choice. Love is not a science.”
However, the producer’s creative director, John Lesseterhe stated that the plot of “Newt” resembled that of “Rio”, by Blue Sky Studios, launched in 2011, so the project was transferred to the director PETE DOCTERfrom “SA Monsters” and “Up – Altas Adventures”, which reformulated the plot, but what few know is that this new script became “fun mind” in 2015, doing what the original idea was in the drawer.
