Meet five princesses who are not of movies released by Disney, but that everyone needs to know their stories and animations
When we talk about Disney characters, many people soon think of the princesses, who represent one of the studio’s most lucrative franchises. With different personalities, much more than just in danger, these characters also feature important stories of perseverance, empowerment, kindness and more.
However, Disney is not the only studio that has already released princess movies. In fact, there are other great animations about princesses with inspiring plots that are not from Mickey’s house. Check out some!
1. Fiona (Shrek)
Being one of the most popular on the list, Fiona emerged in 2001 in Dreamworks’s movie “Shrek”, where she is presented as the princess of the kingdom so far away that she was the victim of a terrible curse that turns her overnight – causing her to be stuck in a tower until she can be saved by the kiss of true love.
While expecting a prince to save her, the young woman is surprised when, in fact, she is taken from the tower by an ogre, Shrek, and a talking donkey. Although at first she does not like the situation, she falls in love with the monster and decides to take over her ogra skin, where she can find her “happily ever after.”
2. Thumb (thumb)
Protagonist of the movie of the same name released in 1994, thumb is a young girl, as small as a thumb, who dreams of finding a love. Her request ends up being answered and she knows Prince Cornelius, as small as she. However, the day they were going to meet, she ends up being kidnapped by a family of frogs, and needs to unravel a way to escape to meet with her beloved.

The plot, produced by Warner Brothers, was inspired by the fairy tale created by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersenfirst published in 1835.
3. Odette (The Enchanted Princess)
In “The Enchanted Princess” (1994), Princess Odette, daughter of King William, ends up falling in love with the prince of another kingdom, when she ends up being bewitched by a vengeful wizard that turns her into swan during the day, in order to steal the throne. The terrible curse could only be broken by his true love, Prince Derek, who leaves an adventure to save her from villain Rothbart.

The animation, produced by Nest Entertainment and Rich Animation Studios, was inspired by the famous Ballet “The Swan Lake”, by the composer Piotr ilitch tchaikovski.
4. San (Princess Mononoke)
Being one of the great films of Studio Ghibli, “Princess Mononoke” begins following the story of Ashitaka, Prince Emish who lives a great dilemma, where he needs to choose between loyalty to his human people and the Kami, gods of the forest.

His internal conflict gets even bigger when he meets San, a human girl created by wolves who is affectionately known by local residents like Princess Mononoke.
5. Kaguya (The Tale of Princess Kaguya)
The most expensive title to be produced by Studio Ghibli, “The Tale of Princess Kaguya” (2013) is an adaptation of the 10th century Japanese fable, “Bamboo Cutter”, one of the oldest in the country.

The story accompanies Kaguya, a girl who, as a baby, was found inside a bamboo trunk, where she is adopted by a kind bamboo cutter and his wife. As she grows, she becomes a stunning young woman, being coveted by five nobles, including the Emperor of Japan – but none pleases him. To avoid marrying a stranger, she starts to ask for impossible gifts, causing the suitors to compete with each other, and end up discovering her true origin.
