Disclosure of the new trailer for the next episode of the second season of The Last of Us confirms fans the introduction of spores; look!
The second season of ‘The Last of Us’ is again attracting attention from netizens in love with the plot inspired by the game of the same name. Following the events of the first part of the plot, the new episodes had their debut on April 13 and now goes to the outcome already in the fifth chapter that had its preview released on Monday, 05.

With the new trailer, the fans had the glimpse of what follows on Ellie’s journey (Bella Ramsey), now seeking revenge for Joel’s death (Pedro Pascal), with a novelty awaited by many that is the introduction of spores, which were not present in the initial episodes released in 2023.
What are spores?
Spores are microscopic structures produced in abundance and play an essential role in the reproduction of fungi, as well as being present in certain plants and bacteria. Because they are extremely light, these organisms can stay suspended in the air or travel through other living beings over long distances and periods, until they find a suitable environment to develop.
In the case of fungi, spores can be classified as furniture or real estate. When they have mobility, they have a structure similar to a “tail” called the scourge, being named zoospores.
In the ‘The Last of Us’ universe, spores gain a central role in what they appear in contaminated areas for a long time by Fungus Cordyceps, especially when infected bodies merge into the environment and form roots in the place. Floating in the air, these contaminated waste is capable of infecting any human who inale them, except Ellie, the only character known with natural immunity to the infection.
Remember that earlier, when the series was launched, the producers chose to replace this form of contagion with tendries, structures inspired by the roots of plants that connect between infected. Second Craig Mazinthe decision arose from the need to avoid the constant use of masks in the plot, something that, in the logic of the universe created, would be inevitable if the spores were in the air, making the setting less realistic for the public after the global experience of Covid-19 pandemic.
Neil Druckmannco -creator of the series, explained that this choice led to the creation of an interconnected network among the infected, making the enemy even more threatening in acting as a collective organism. The tenders not only transmit the fungus, but also allow the contagion to spread silently and coordinated.
The fifth episode of the second season of ‘The Last of Us’ opens on May 11 at HBO and Max.
