After the controversial publication regarding the judicial case between the members of the Newjeans (NJZ) and the ador, KBS has commented on the matter
The South Korean broadcaster KBS, released on Friday, 02, an official apology to the Newjeans group, now following NJZ’s name, after criticism involving a miniature considered inappropriate in a video published on the network’s official channel. The content addressed the current contractual dispute between the quintet and the Hybe agency.
In April, a petition published on the station’s website, entitled “We demand the end of malicious reports and an official apology,” brought together criticism of fans and supporters of the group. The document accused KBS to induce public opinion with “provocative phrases”, as well as “citing personal opinions of youtubers” and omitting important contexts from international interviews regarding the group’s contract with the ador, as reflected by the Koreaboo portal.
The original video featured the headline “stirring NJZ, Haerin’s Escape? Escape is based on intelligence versus an unfounded rumor, a close relationship.” The choice of words generated negative reaction among the bunnies (group fandom), who also accused the station to explore the image of minors, Hyein and Haerinfor sensational purposes by exposing the rumors of a disagreement among the member’s family members regarding the breach of contract. After the negative repercussion, the video was removed from the air.
In response, KBS recognized the mistake made, justifying that the intention was to show both sides, but presented inappropriate content, thus making video private, not allowing it to continue to be spread on social networks.
“The content in question addressed the contractual dispute between Hybe and NJZ, and we sought to present both sides without bias. However, we recognized that the thumbnail text was inappropriate and, therefore, the video was made private.”
The station completed the statement with an apology to viewers who felt uncomfortable, and said it will be more careful with future content.
CASE NJZ X HYBE
The dispute began after the then CEO of the ador, Min hee-jinaccused by Hybe of attempted internal blow. The creative director denied the accusations and said the company favored other groups, such as Illit, harming Newjeans.
After breaking with the executive, the five members of the group announced the termination of their contracts with the ador, accusing them of lack of support and mistreatment by company agents. The label, however, contested the decision, claiming that the contracts remain valid, which is still evaluated by the South Korea Court.
However, since then, the group started to use the name NJZ, but a legal decision prohibited them from using the new brand without official approval of the ador, so Minji, Hanni, Daniele, Haerin and Hyein They remain in hiatus while waiting for legal trials.
