MSP Studios repudiates comic strips made by AI inspired by Monica’s class

After images made by Ia inspired by Monica’s Gang viralizing on social networks, MSP Studios has stated that it will take action against the practice

After images made by Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the style of the animations of Studio Ghibli reverberating on social networks, now it was the turn of Monica’s gang to inspire images through chatgpt and derived tools, and also viralize on the internet.

Despite the popularization of the so -called “Trend”, MSP Studios (formerly Mauricio de Sousa Produções) issued a press release through O Globo, repudiating the attitude, and will claim that he will take action against the practice.

In the statement, the studio founded by Mauricio de Sousa It states that “the use of any element related to the characters is protected by laws of copyright and intellectual property”, and highlights that the company does not authorize “the creation of content that violates these rights.”

Check out the full statement:

“MSP Studios attempt attentive to the debate that has been gaining strength on social networks about the use of artificial intelligence tools in creating images and comics inspired by the Universe of Monica’s Gang. We are aware that this is a path without return: AI is a powerful technology, which has been established as an ally of creative processes on various fronts of the cultural industry.

We recognize the value of artificial intelligence as a tool for experimentation and innovation, but we reinforce that it must act as support, not replacement, to artistic creation. When it tries to reproduce the trait of Monica’s Gang, AI only echoes, in a limited way, a unique visual language, built over decades by MSP Studios artists. More than a style, this trait carries narratives, emotions and human sensitivity, something that no algorithm can replicate completely.

MSP Studios stresses that the use of any character -related element is protected by laws of copyright and intellectual property. We do not authorize the creation of content that violates these rights, nor admit associations with hate discourses, misinformation or practices that contradict company values. For over 60 years, we have defended ethics and commitment to culture and we will always act that these principles are disrespected.

We continue committed to the technological and artistic development of our sector, dialoguing with new possibilities, but always with responsibility and respect for the art, the public and the legacy built by our artists. ”

It is worth remembering that, in recent times, the use of artificial intelligence for the creation of arts, whether audiovisual works or just images, has generated a series of discussions internationally, with numerous directors, artists, voice actors and actors positioning themselves against technology. In 2016, during the documentary “Never Priming Man: Hayao Miyazaki”, produced by NHK, Hayao Miyazakifounder of Studio Ghibli, expressed his aversion to the use of AI in artistic creation.

In production, the renowned filmmaker said, “I’m absolutely bothered. If you really want to create repulsive things, you can continue. But I would never want to incorporate this technology into my work. I feel strongly that this is an insult to life itself.”
