Ambitious, dark and full of conspiracies, this is Resident Evil, the Netflix series that adapts one of the most famous video game franchises in history for television and features a Mexican. Paola Nunez in your distribution.

“You don’t need to know the whole history of games to understand this world, because it’s a parallel story. Watching the series for the first time, if you are a beginner, you will understand it perfectly,” said the famous actress. for series such as “La Reina del Sur” and “Amor en Custodia”.

Netflix has signed Nunes to play the villain in this new adaptation, which also bears no resemblance to the previous seven films the brand has released since 2002.

With its two intertwined plots, the first one has dystopian overtones about a society controlled by corporations, and the second one has given up on surviving the apocalypse. ‘Resident Evil’ will try to keep the attention of fans of video games, science fiction and dystopia with a franchise that has not stopped releasing formats in its more than 25 years of life.

While they start with a loyal audience, attempts to jump from console to the big screen don’t always work out as expected: Uncharted has recently disappointed despite expectations; Mortal Kombat failed to establish itself as a compelling saga, and Assassin’s Creed also failed to find the formula for success by bringing its cinematic plot into the present.

However, the series format brings joy to the streaming giant with The Witcher based on a series of video games that are in turn inspired by the novel, or Stranger Things itself, clearly influenced by titles from the 80s.

What is the new Netflix series Resident Evil about?

On this background, ‘Resident Evil’ is a new attempt to appeal to console players, and it does so by going back to the origins of the first video game, the one that revolutionized the industry in 1996 by introducing a survival story and popularizing the zombie genre in popular culture.

His new series, which has a world premiere of eight one-hour episodes, starts as a direct sequel to the original game but jumps forward in time to place us in two different points in time.

On the one hand, it represents New Raccoon City, a city created in 2022 umbrella corporation after the chemical disaster that destroyed the previous city.

There, Nunez’s character (Evelyn Marcus) runs an operation to sell a drug (Joy) that is supposedly able to eradicate anxiety and depression, but with dark side effects.

“She’s a wounded woman, she’s trying to gain respect within the corporation, in such a masculine world,” the actress muses of the character the franchise portrays as the daughter of the company’s Machiavellian founder.

The scenario punctuates this operation with its disastrous consequences when, in 2036, a virus devastated humanity and reduced its population to 300 million refugees living in camps surrounded by zombies.

There, Jade Wesker, one of the daughters of Dr. Albert Wesker, will try to find out the origin of this tragedy that struck her father.

“In this Resident Evil, we can see how the decisions that are made create catastrophes in the future. There is a lot of apocalyptic in this series, but it talks about human behavior and how many people try to find strength in chaotic situations, ”Mexican emphasizes.
