Madame Figaro: How did you become a close friend of the Maubussin household?
Adriana Karembeu. – I met Alain Nemarck, whose president he was from 2002, when he was working for Yves Saint Laurent and Kenzo. I was a model and I remember confiding in her my consuming passion for handbags. I am honored that he thought of me to embody Mauboussin’s French style and write this fashion story together. These bags are everything I love, stylish and practical everyday companions.

Not only do I come from a very poor country that no longer exists, Czechoslovakia, but I grew up with a father who constantly told me since I was a child that he was not going to do anything to me. I kept trying to please him, never succeeding. When I was spotted by a French modeling agency in 1991, I obviously took it as a good boost in life. Since that day, staying on track to achieve my goals and dreams has always been my mantra.

Has your role as a mother changed the way you envision the future?
I was raised by women who constantly reminded me throughout my childhood that work and financial independence are the keys to freedom. A reality that I somewhat forgot when my daughter was born… I wanted to take advantage of all these magical moments. Last September, when I had just spent three and a half years taking care of Nina 100%, I filmed episodes of the series; A more beautiful life. This return to watching movies made me (re)aware of the importance of combining my professional life with my social and family life.

What are your plans for the start of the school year?
With Michelle Symes, we filmed three new programs “Extraordinary Powers of the Human Body”.. We’ve been presenting it together for ten years now and it’s been an exciting adventure every time. Medicine is a family business: my grandmother was a nurse, my mother was a doctor, and I started studying medicine before becoming a model.

What’s one accessory you never part with?
The bag is the obsession of my life. I can even say that I am completely addicted. When I love a model, I even dream about it at night. Ever since I became a mom, I’ve been carrying shoulder bags with large containers. My phone, my wallet, my glasses, my napkins and compotes for my daughter… I am one of those women who have their whole life in their hands. it’s a bag.

Where does this passion come from?
From my grandmother. She kept two gorgeous leather bags in her closet. I don’t think he ever wore them, or even took them out of their box. In Slovakia, women did not wear cute feminine shopping bags, but rather large work bags. I examined them from every angle, touched and secretly felt them like a treasure.
