On Wednesday, July 6, the long-awaited Jean Paul Gaultier fashion show by Olivier Rousteing took place. A collection of tributes to fashion’s terrible childhood, wrapped in striking creations.

Jean Paul Gaultier has always had a heart to show bodies in all their diversity during his parades. This Wednesday, July 6, the Fall Winter 2022-2023 Haute Couture presentation designed by Olivier Rousteing was no exception to the rule. After Chitose Abe and Glenn Martens, the young Balmain designer was in fact invited to take over the helm of the Parisian house, period of the season; a tradition established by Jean Paul Gaultier after his retirement from fashion in 2020. Among his 59 spectacular silhouettes, Olivier Rousteing imagined two dresses that emphasize the body of a pregnant woman.

“You broke so many conventions for me when I was a child,” Olivier Rousteing told Jean Paul Gaultier before the show. With his creations, Bordle is in the same line as his master. The two models, decked out in spectacular jewelry, arrived on the twenty-seventh runway with their hands on their stomachs. They wore the same molded leather dress in two different shades. Creations that revealed a bare trompe-l’oeil body, with magnificent abs and cone-shaped breasts rising above a draped skirt. A stylish proposition, with the aim, perhaps, of questioning the way women’s bodies look in fashion.

Master Reissue

During his spring-summer 2010-2011 fashion show, Jean Paul Gaultier called Jourdan Dunn, who was eight months pregnant at the time. The British topper walked the Paris catwalk in a cone-shaped bib dress that accentuated her curvaceous stomach. On Wednesday evening, the circle of Olivier Rousteing and his mentor, who acted as an advocate of inclusion before the hour, closed.
