Despite calls to cancel the event due to wildfires in Los Angeles, the Academy Awards ceremony will take place on the night of March 2-3.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has confirmed that the current Academy Awards ceremony will go ahead as scheduled on the night of March 2-3, despite the wildfires in Los Angeles.

According to The Guardian, Academy executive director Bill Cramer said in a letter to members that the ceremony will celebrate the work that unites us as a global film community and honor those who brave the elements.

“We will honor Los Angeles as the City of Dreams by showcasing its beauty and resilience, and its role as a beacon for filmmakers and creative visionaries for over a century,” said Kramer.

This year, the Academy decided to abandon the traditional live performance of songs nominated for best composition. More attention will be paid to the stories of the creators, who will tell what inspired them to create music.

The 96th ceremony will be hosted by the famous Irish-born comedian and TV presenter Conan O’Brien.

It was previously reported that Stephen King spoke against the holding of the Oscar ceremony.
