Through a messaging app, Taemin revealed to fans the reason for not participating in the SMTOWN LIVE 2025 shows
Last weekend, SMTOWN LIVE 2025 took place, a two-day event celebrating 30 years of SM Entertainment, a company that is home to some of the main k-pop idols in history.
Despite being a great celebration, the party was not without a series of controversies, including the absence of many artists. Taeyeonleader of Girls’ Generation, for example, stated that he would not participate in the presentations, as he had not been having “good conversations” with the agency. A few days before the shows, SM also announced that Wendyfrom Red Velvet, would also not attend for “personal reasons”.
Furthermore, many other singers who were revealed by the company, but who are now part of other labels, also did not attend the event, despite having been invited — like what happened with SHINee, who performed only with Key and Minhonot counting the presence of the leader Onew and the maknae Taemincurrently managed by GRIFFIN Entertainment and BOM Entertainment, respectively.
This Monday, 13th, Taemin justified his absence to fans through the paid messaging app, Bubble, saying that he was unable to be present for bureaucratic reasons, as the idol has been discussing with his current agency to reconcile his solo activities with those of the group. He said:
“Did you sleep well? The weather is cold, so wear warm clothes, keep your neck warm and drink something hot as the cold is coming. I’m writing this for fans who might be worried about SHINee. I’m sorry I can’t participate with SHINee during the SMTOWN concert. I wanted to finish negotiating with the company and participate in SHINee activities quickly, but it seems like it will take some time to sort things out. But we are making progress and it looks like this will end soon.
The other members and I want to protect SHINee and continue our history together. So if you think I don’t want to be on SHINee or are worried that you won’t be able to see SHINee anymore, please don’t worry. I hope what I say doesn’t become a burden to someone else. All members love SHINee and have the same heart. We are working carefully to prepare for SHINee, so let’s see each other soon with smiling faces. Have a good day and thank you always.”
It is worth remembering that Taemin has a show scheduled in Brazil next month. The idol will return to the country with his new world tour, “Ephemeral Gaze”, where his only performance is confirmed for February 1st in São Paulo.
