Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation have changed the release date of the highly anticipated animated film Shrek 5, Deadline reports.
Instead of July 1, 2026, the release was moved to December 23 of the same year. This decision was announced in a press release.

The illumination studio also made adjustments to the dates of its premieres. The cartoon Minions 3 has been delayed from June 30, 2027 to July 1, 2026, timing the release for US Independence Day. Note that the previous film in the franchise, Despicable Me 4, earned $230 million at the global box office in its first weekend alone.
Additionally, Illumination’s untitled animated blockbuster has been pushed back from March 19, 2027 to June 30, 2027.
The release of Shrek 5 will take place in a significant year for DreamWorks Animation – the company will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2026.
