ADVICE – Unstable mood, poor communication, aggressiveness… Working in a team with a difficult leader can be a source of suffering. What levers can you activate to protect yourself from such a situation? When is it best to leave?
With his manager, Pierre never really knew where to stand. The 26-year-old, with a permanent contract at the communications company from 2021 to 2023, now describes his then N+1 adjectives: “Ambivalent, annoying, toxic. He could be a very pleasant person when we went for drinks or a brainstorming meeting as a team, then suddenly changed his behavior and became verbally aggressive because of a simple spelling error in the internal file,” recalls Pierre. This unpredictable behavior, possibly related to poor stress management, was coupled with “high demands on his team that he did not apply to himself.” Result? “Each letter or call from him caused fear in me. what was he going to accuse me of this time and especially in what tone? In the long run, this stress ended up changing my focus and my productivity.”
