TXT and NewJeans pay tribute to the victims of the Jeju plane crash

After a plane crash in Muan, South Korea, TXT and NewJeans pay tribute to the victims, following international commitments

On the morning of December 29, South Korea was marked by the accident of Jeju Air flight 2216, which crashed after attempting to land and leaving the runway, resulting in the death of 179 of the 181 passengers on board. The accident, considered one of the region’s biggest air tragedies, led the South Korean government to declare a seven-day national mourning period out of respect for the victims.

Several public figures, institutions and organizations, including the entertainment industry, came together in solidarity, offering their condolences to the victims and their families. Amid the collective commotion, some K-pop artists and groups, such as NewJeans and TXT, had previously scheduled commitments and continued with their professional obligations while paying tribute to the tragedy.

Both groups participated in the 66th edition of the Japan Record Awards, where they performed their latest hits. Even in the middle of the event, the artists made a point of paying tribute to the victims. During the live broadcast, all members of TXT and NewJeans appeared with black ribbons on their outfits, as a sign of respect and mourning.

Events such as: “2024 MBC Entertainment Awards”, originally scheduled for December 29th, “2024 SBS Entertainment Awards” and “39th Golden Disc Awards”, which were scheduled to take place on January 4th and 5th at Fukuoka PayPay Dome, in Japan, they were cancelled.

South Korea remains in a moment of solidarity, and the debate about canceling other year-end events continues, highlighting how the tragedy affected the country and the entertainment industry as a whole.
